We recognize that new associates often seek out advice and look for assistance in transitioning from law school into the practice of law and life at Simpson Thacher. In addition to department-specific training, the Firm provides a network of dedicated mentors, across different levels of seniority, to help with integration and development.
Incoming associates across practice groups and offices are assigned a partner and associate mentor. In addition, incoming associates in Corporate and Litigation departments in New York, together with their mentors, are organized in small mentoring groups. Mentoring pairs and groups meet periodically in social settings over the course of the associates' first year of practice.
Incoming associates also form relationships and develop an informal network of mentors through direct work with partners and more senior associates on various assignments. We actively support and encourage attorneys at all levels to participate in all mentoring related efforts. — Susan Osnato, Director, Legal Personnel & Professional Development
